UFC 313 fills out lineup with additional preliminary bout added to card

A late-notice preliminary matchup has been added to the UFC 313 card set for T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas this weekend.

Chris Gutierrez and John Castaneda will meet in a featherweight bout on Saturday’s prelims, the organization announced Tuesday.

Both fighters usually compete as bantamweights, however, due to the short-notice nature of this matchup coming together, they will meet in the 145-pound division as opposed to down at 135 pounds. 

Gutierrez was originally scheduled to face Jean Matsumoto at UFC 313 but was left without an opponent when Matsumoto was rebooked into his recent short-notice bout with Rob Font late last month in Seattle. 

Castaneda had his scheduled 140-pound catchweight bout with Douglas Silva de Andrade last weekend at the UFC Apex cancelled, after successfully weighing in, due to a medical issue with Silva de Andrade.

Gutierrez has alternated wins and losses over his past four outings dating back to 2023. He is best known for his 2022 knockout win over UFC Hall of Famer Frankie Edgar

Castaneda, who’s also 33 and from Texas like Gutierrez, has won four of his past six but is coming off a decision loss to Daniel Marcos last June.
