Facebook adds Emotional Health feature for mental health

Facebook has announced a new feature that serves as a resource center that provides tips and information on mental health called Emotional Health.

The new feature provides locally relevant information and tips such as taking care of one’s emotional health, navigating grief and loss, and coping with stress about mental health officials’ finances. The company will also build on the features and topic areas based on its global and national partners’ guidance. The Emotional Health feature also supports Talk with a Friend function.


According to Facebook, this will also connect people to experts and resources. Facebook will roll out features including:

  • The World Health Organization Digital Stress Management Guide, which provides easy-to-follow techniques designed to reduce stress and promote mental well-being, now available on the WHO Health Alert chatbot on WhatsApp
  • A sticker pack available on Messenger designed with the WHO, to facilitate conversations around mental health that can lead to support
  • Suicide and self-harm prevention through our expanded partnership with Crisis Text Line to provide Crisis Support Over Messenger
  • New mental well-being guides on Instagram, including one created in collaboration with the JED Foundation, help teens understand how their time online may impact their emotional well-being. One from the Korea Suicide Prevention Center that guides how men can talk about mental health without shame.

Aside from this feature, the platform will also out a new Facebook Watch show focuses on mental health. The new talk show, Peace of Mind with Taraji (working title), will roll out on Facebook Watch featuring the Golden Globe Award-Winning Actress Taraji P. Henson and co-hosted Tracia Jade Jenkins, who is the Executive Director of Henson’s Boris Lawrence Henson Foundation. This will help to show how to provide support, bring awareness, and help defeat the stigmas of mental health issues through personal interviews with celebrities and experts. The show will be launched later this year.

Emotional Health is starting to roll out globally on mobile devices.
