Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) has just announced that the Playstation 5 has sold more than 10 million units. Since first launching on November 12, 2020, the PS5 is the fastest-selling console in the company’s history and continues to outpace its predecessor, the PlayStation 4.
SIE also achieved additional milestones across its portfolio of PlayStation Studio games, including:
- Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales from Insomniac Games has sold more than 6.5 million copies since releasing on November 12, 2020
- MLB The Show 21 from San Diego Studio is the fastest-selling title in franchise history with more than 2 million copies sold across all platforms. The game has reached more than 4 million players since releasing on April 16, 2021
- Returnal from Housemarque, a new IP that launched to critical acclaim, has sold more than 560,000 copies since release on April 30, 2021
- Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart from Insomniac Games has sold more than 1.1 million copies* since releasing on June 11, 2021
SIE’s forecast for the PS5 fiscal year remains unchanged. Expect a lineup of exclusive games coming from PlayStation Studios including a new God of War, Gran Turismo 7, and Horizon Forbidden West. As well as much anticipated games like Battlefield 2042, DEATHLOOP, Far Cry6, and Kena: Bridge of Spirits.
“While PS5 has reached more households faster than any of our previous consoles, we still have a lot of work ahead of us as demand for PS5 continues to outstrip supply. I want gamers to know that while we continue to face unique challenges throughout the world that affect our industry and many others, improving inventory levels remains a top priority for SIE.” said Jim Ryan, President and CEO of Sony Interactive.
The PlayStation 5 reached its 10 million-milestone 249 days after its launch versus the Playstation 4, which reached the same said milestone 271 days after its launch. Both the PS2 and PS3 reached the same milestone more than a year after the respective system’s launch date.
