DIY Gaming Headphone Repair

Having a good pair of headphones is one of the best ways to maximize your experience using just about any gadget. From your smartphone to your desktop, a decent pair of cans will make a world of difference in enjoying music, movies, gaming, and a whole lot more. The frustrating part about this is that many of these headphones are made of materials that aren’t top-notch at times. Even the most expensive ones have plastic in them that can break easily when not handled correctly.

Storytime. Here’s a Razer Kraken X headband that I personally purchased off Facebook Marketplace for only PHP 800. Unfortunately, as you can see from the picture, the headband is completely broken. Luckily none of the wires got damaged, so all the functions of the headphone are okay.

How are we going to fix this? Most people would think just to use superglue, epoxy, or something like that. However, superglue on its own usually isn’t enough as that tends to break easily even after repair. The secret to this is adding your old-fashioned baking soda to the superglue.

The first step is just applying superglue to the broken area and sticking them together. Then, let it dry for a few minutes so that you can start applying superglue to the other areas.

Next is to find a paperclip, piece of metal, or anything small enough to slide in between the spaces of the headband. This will add some support so that the headband won’t break again.

Cut them into small pieces, lengthwise.

Now you apply super glue all over the broken area and on top of the paper clip support.

After the superglue, it’s time to add some baking soda, don’t be scared to go crazy as the baking soda will only use the amount of superglue it needs.

Use an old toothbrush to brush off any excess baking soda.

Reapply another layer of super glue plus baking soda combo. I usually do at least 2 layers of this.

Let the super glue and baking soda dry and harden for a few minutes. It won’t take long for it to create a super-strong bond.

And voila! You now have a repaired pair of cans! Using super glue and just a bit of baking soda will usually guarantee a hard substance that is very hard to crack again. Your headphones will break in other parts first before it does in the same spot! Congratulations!
