Idle Jets can clinch home-ice advantage in first round vs. Avalanche

It’s coming down to the final few games of the regular season to full lock-down playoff matchups, but last night’s victory for the Dallas Stars solidified one post-season showdown in the West between the Winnipeg Jets and Colorado Avalanche.

Saturday night’s 7-0 thumping of the Avalanche by the Jets gave Winnipeg a leg up to secure home-ice advantage through Round 1. Though idle on Sunday, the Jets can clinch the advantage if the Avalanche lose in regulation to the Vegas Golden Knights, which would push them down to the No. 3 spot in the Central Division.

Elsewhere, the Nashville Predators will lock in the first wild-card spot if the Golden Knights lose in any fashion to the Avalanche. Should the standings stay that way, the Predators would face the Vancouver Canucks in Round 1.

In the Eastern Conference, the idle New York Rangers can clinch first place in the Metropolitan Division if the Carolina Hurricanes lose to the Chicago Blackhawks in regulation. The Rangers are three points ahead of the Hurricanes for the division title, but Carolina holds one game in hand.

Just four days remain in the regular season and 14 playoff berths have been clinched thus far.
