Boston Red Sox righty Nick Pivetta has been placed on the 15-day injured list with a right elbow flexor strain, the team announced on Tuesday.
His placement on the IL is retroactive to April 6.
In a corresponding move, Boston has recalled lefty pitcher Brennan Bernardino for triple-A Worcester.
Pivetta has made two appearances for the Red Sox this season, going 1-1 in 11 innings to the tune of a 0.82 ERA. He has 13 strikeouts in that time.
He most recently pitched on April 3 against the Oakland Athletics, putting up five scoreless innings.
A native of Victoria, British Columbia, Pivetta is an eight-year veteran in MLB. He started his time in the show with the Philadelphia Phillies. He has a career ERA of 4.81 with an all-time 51-60 record.
MLB has seen a rash of elbow injuries since the start of the season, with pitchers such as the Braves’ Spencer Strider, the Guardians’ Shane Bieber and the Marlins’ Eury Perez all either landing on the IL or opting for season-ending Tommy John surgery.
