The Toronto Maple Leafs have announced their new ECHL affiliation with the Cincinnati Cyclones, which will begin the 2024-25 season.
The Cyclones are the latest team to join a long list of ECHL affiliates under the Leafs, with Newfoundland, Orlando, Reading, Columbia and Pensacola all being previous destinations for the historic club.
Cincinnati competes in the Central Division of the ECHL’s Western Conference and will take over operations for the recently dissolved Growlers, who served as Toronto’s affiliate for the past six seasons.
Current Leafs forward Bobby McMann and defender Timothy Liljegren have suited up for the Growlers before making their way to the Leafs, with the ECHL serving as a legitimate pipeline for NHL-calibre talents in recent years.
“We are excited to embark on this new partnership with the Cincinnati Cyclones,” Leafs GM Brad Treliving said in a statement.
“This is a significant investment for our hockey club as we look to provide our players with the best resources available to support their growth and professional development.”
Cincinnati will kick off its 2024-25 season in October, playing its home games out of Heritage Bank Center in Cincinnati.
