Five Canadians set to tee it up at PGA Championship

The second major championship of the men’s golf season will feature five Canadians.

Corey Conners, Nick Taylor, Taylor Pendrith, Adam Hadwin and Mackenzie Hughes all qualified for the PGA Championship, which runs May 15-18 at Quail Hollow Golf Club in Charlotte, N.C.

Conners, of Listowel, Ont., is coming off a top-10 finish at the Masters where he played in the final group Saturday and second-last group Sunday. He’s earned five top-10 finishes during the season while missing just one cut.

Taylor, of Abbotsford, B.C., won Hawaii’s Sony Open in January. His last tournament was a T12 finish alongside fellow Abbotsford native Hadwin at the Zurich Classic, a team event.

For Hughes, who lives in Charlotte and is a member at Quail Hollow, the PGA Championship will be a home game of sorts. The Dundas, Ont., native had consecutive top-10 finishes (Texas Open, RBC Heritage) before missing the cut at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson.

Pendrith, of Richmond Hill, Ont., also missed the cut at the CJ Cup in his title defence at the Dallas-area tournament.

All but Hughes, who is the third alternate, will play in the Truist Championship at Philadelphia Cricket Club beginning Thursday.

Xander Schauffele is the reigning PGA Championship winner.
