TGL will return for third season in 2027, expand to seven teams

TGL is expanding.

And it’s set to have a third season.

A seventh team will be added to TGL, it was announced on Tuesday. Motor City Golf Club (MCGC) will represent the city of Detroit and begin play in 2027.  

Motor City Golf Club’s ownership group is led by Middle West Partners with principals Michael Hamp, Peter Hamp and Kevin Kelleher, who all have Detroit roots. The Hamp family has been longtime co-owners of the Detroit Lions with Sheila Hamp currently serving as principal owner and chairwoman.

For this new TGL team venture, Sheila Hamp and her husband Steve Hamp are co-owners of Motor City Golf Club.  

Adding to the ownership group are Rob Walton, owner of the Denver Broncos, and Jordan Rose, president and founder of Rose Law Group, the largest woman-founded law firm in Arizona history.

Middle West Partners is joined by co-owners Kit Hawkins and Vansa Chatikavanij of Present Ventures; technology entrepreneur Kal Somani, co-owner of the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League; Ronin Capital Partners, led by Jay Farner, former CEO of Rocket Companies; and RHC Group, an active sports investment firm.

The branding and roster announcement will be made at a future date.

“Detroit is a fantastic sports town. The city has a championship legacy and Detroit fans are passionate about their teams and they’ll let you know it,” Mike McCarley, founder and CEO, TMRW Sports and TGL said in a release. “TGL’s inaugural season generated extensive interest in its expansion process and we’re proud to welcome Motor City Golf Club and its ownership group as we build on the league’s continued momentum in the years to come.”

TGL is the primetime, team golf league founded by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s TMRW Sports.

While there has been no official announcement about TGL’s 2026 campaign, earlier reporting from the Sports Business Journal at the launch of TGL stated most of the golfers from 2025 had signed two-year deals. McCarley told Sportsnet in an earlier interview he had told his staff nine months prior to start developing a “season-two wish list.”

The inaugural TGL Championship was won by Atlanta Drive GC, consisting of Justin Thomas, Patrick Cantlay, Billy Horschel, and Lucas Glover.

The PGA Tour has hosted an annual stop in Detroit, the Rocket Mortgage Classic, since 2019.
