Carolina Hurricanes defenceman Charles Alexis Legault is expected to miss three to four months after undergoing surgery on his right hand, the team announced Tuesday.
General manager Eric Tulsky said Legault had surgery Monday to repair multiple torn extensor tendons and will be placed on injured reserve.
The 22-year-old suffered the laceration from a skate blade during Sunday night’s game in Toronto while he was challenged to a fight by Leafs forward Bobby McMann after a hit on Nick Robertson.
Legault fell to the ice during the skirmish and his hand looked to make contact with Robertson’s skate.
Legault has two points (one goal, one assist) and a plus-4 in eight games with Carolina this season.
The Laval, Que., native was selected by the Hurricanes in the fifth round (139th overall) of the 2023 NHL Draft after playing collegiately at Quinnipiac University, where he helped the Bobcats win the 2023 NCAA national championship.
