Nikon Z9 now official

Nikon has officially unveiled their newest addition to their full-frame camera lineup, the Nikon Z9 .

The Nikon Z9 boasts a 45.7MP CMOS sensor, 8K video recording, and the four-axis 3.2-inch touch screen. However, Nikon claims that the Z9’s biggest selling point is its complete elimination of a mechanical shutter due to what they tout as the “world’s fastest image scan rate.”

Nikon states that the quicker sensor scan rate is made possible with their all-new EXPEED 7 image-processing engine. Compared to its predecessor, the Z7 II, the Z9’s sensor speeds are now approximately 10 times faster. This allows for significantly smaller amounts of rolling shutter distortion, even when shooting at 1/32,000 of a second. Additionally, this new processing engine also provides a wider dynamic range with ISO ranging from 64 to 24,600 (Expandable from 32 to 102,400).

The Nikon Z9 combines an intelligent AF and a Vibration Reduction image stabilization system. Nikon claims that their new AF system offers the fastest AF tracking performance in the Japanese camera company’s history.  In addition, it utilizes a Subject Detection algorithm that can identify and track nine subject types including humans, pets, birds, airplanes, trains, cars, motorbikes, and bicycles. On the other hand, the Vibration Reduction image stabilization system allows for up to six stops of shake compensation and VR safety lock to protect the sensor from damage caused by “unintentional movement” when the camera is powered off and in transit in rough conditions.

For video recording, the Nikon Z9 supports up to 8K resolution at a max of 30fps and 4K resolution capped at 120fps. Furthermore, it also boasts up to two hours of battery life (with continuous single use) at 8K.

On hardware, the Nikon Z9 sports a four-axis 3.2-inch touch compatible monitor and a Quad-VGA panel viewfinder that is capable of up to 3000cd/m2 (nits) peak brightness. For design, it touts a rugged design that is 20% lighter than the previous D6 model and made from magnesium alloy chassis.

The Nikon Z9 Mirrorless Camera is priced at USD 5,499.95, and it is now available for pre-order at the official Nikon website.
