If you grew up as a gamer like I did then there’s one name that was probably your “holy grail” when it comes to laptops. Something futuristic and extreme, Alienware. Designed to look like a gamer’s dream system, Alienware laptops have always been the pinnacle of gaming design and performance.
I got a chance to test out their latest system, the Alienware m15 R6. This laptop just screams premium from every single detail and angle. If you’re looking for something that can do everything a powerful desktop can and more, then look no further.
Design
The Alienware m15 R6 just looks like it’s from some sci-fi game like Mass Effect. The metal gray finish just exudes premium quality. Something I’d probably like to see in future versions of the laptop would be a metal finish as this laptop is made of premium plastic, but that doesn’t take away from how great and premium it feels to the touch. The laptop also didn’t feel as heavy as I’d thought it would be. Considering all the power and specs that are in this laptop, I assumed it would weigh a ton, but this one is very manageable.
When you open the laptop a large 15.6-inch screen greets you with a rather large Alienware logo at the chin of the screen. The design looks great but sometimes I’d wish that they’d be inspired by the XPS line of Dell (as they are one company after all) and go for a no-bezel look with these new Alienware laptops. I digress though, the screen looks great and the keyboard is just perfect for me. The keys were tactile and easy to press. Key travel was also very good and the trackpad, despite being plastic, worked really well. Another big thing for me was the lack of a numpad. I personally favor laptops that don’t have numpads as companies sometimes just cram an entire keyboard in a chassis and make the typing experience horrible. I prefer this approach and everything seems much more premium this way. Typing for long hours wasn’t a problem even though there was a bit of heat at times when running the laptop for a long time.
The keyboard and the Alienware logo is RGB as well as a strip at the back I/O so you can personalize your laptop as much as you want using the Alienware Command Center.
Performance
The Alienware m15 R6 configuration that I have with me is powered 11th Generation Intel® Core i7 processor with an RTX 3080 graphics card. The screen is also competitive gamer ready being a super high-refresh-rate screen at 360hz at 1920 x 1080 resolution. It also comes with what Alienware calls their Alienware Cryo-Tech cooling technology that helps with keeping thermals down. It also includes an IR camera that supports Windows Hello, this allows you to log into your laptop very quickly and easily by scanning your face.
What does this all mean though? It means that you can throw everything at the Alienware m15 R6 and it’ll just breeze through them easily. At 1080p, every single game you throw at the laptop will run at max settings without even breaking a sweat. The laptop will run most games at over 100fps at this resolution so expect buttery smooth gameplay and visually pleasing results. The laptop as you can see prioritizes high-refresh-rate and speeds rather than going for a high resolution. This should please competitive gamers out there who play CS:GO, Valorant, DOTA, Call of Duty: Warzone, and other competitive games. While testing out this game playing Warzone, everything was just at over 144fps and I could even go higher if I used NVidia DLSS. Every game also benefits from the screen being G-Sync compatible. It takes away screen tearing and ghosting from games too. With its memory running at 3200mhz as well, you can multitask all you want, open a game, open a million tabs, play a video in the background all at the same time and the laptop won’t even have a hard time doing that.
This means that aside from gaming, the laptop is great for professionals as well. If you need a powerful laptop for rendering 4k, or even 8k video, it would be just a breeze with this laptop. So for pros out there looking for a laptop that can do their work for the next few years, this laptop will do it for you.
Another great feature is that it comes with a 1TB NVMe SSD. This allows lightning-fast bootup times for the laptop and games load super fast as well. Now if you include other features such as Killer Wi-Fi6 then that’s just putting it over the top when it comes to performance as lag will just be a thing of a past for you (depending on your ISP of course!).
No Compromise
So if you guys are looking for the best laptop that you can get then you don’t have to look any further. The Alienware m15 R6 has all the cutting-edge technology that you are looking for. Of course it comes at a hefty cost but that gives you the best of the best when it comes to performance. This laptop really will serve you as a desktop replacement, the performance it gives is simply unmatched.
It’s a bit of a statement to own an Alienware laptop and the company is unapologetic about that fact. This model takes that to the extreme and just tells people that you are on a different level when they see that you have a laptop like this. No compromise is what the company is going for when it comes to the Alienware m15 R6, and for people who can afford the laptop, that is what they are looking for.
Alienware just keeps on coming out with devices that not only look good but are beasts when it comes to performance. The Alienware m15 R6 continues that tradition and again sets the bar for what a premium laptop should look and feel like.
