Sony officially unveiled the newest addition to its Alpha Full-Frame line-up, the Sony Alpha 7 IV.
This full-frame camera sports the latest BIONZ XR processing engine, 33MP image resolution, full-frame back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS image sensor, 15-stop dynamic range (ISO 50-204,800), and 4K 30p video recording.
Emulated from its predecessor, the Sony Alpha 7 IV features a 759 phase-detection auto-focus that boasts improved face and eye detection accuracy by approximately 30% compared to the Alpha 7 III. It also touts “uninterrupted continuous shooting” with up to 10fps2 with AF/AE tracking.
For video recording resolutions and frame rate, it features a 4K 60p recording (Super 35mm mode) and 4K 30p recording 7K oversampling (full-frame mode). Furthermore, it boasts a 10-bit depth 4:2:2 color sampling and encoding file formats of XAVC S-I intra-frame and HS H.265 long-GOP. The latter allows for streamlined editing workflows and enhanced compression.
On operability, it sports a 5-axis optical in-body image stabilizer and dual layer mode dial (Still/Movie/S&Q and Auto/P/A/S/M and MR). As for hardware, the Sony Alpha 7 IV features a magnesium alloy camera body, approx. 3.68 million-dot OLED Quad-VGA viewfinder (1.6x higher than the Alpha 7 III), 3-inch side-opening vari-angle touch-panel rear LCD monitor, and Z-series battery. For connectivity, it offers 5GHz/2.4.GHz Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capabilities.
The Sony Alpha 7 IV (camera body only) will retail for USD 2,499 and will be available for purchase in December 2021. On the other hand, the kit version that includes Alpha 7 IV’s camera body and Sony’s FE 28-70mm F3.5-5.6 OSS zoom lens will retail for USD 2,699.
Sony Philippines will also bring in this latest camera soon. However, there’s no word yet about its local pricing and availability, so stay tuned!
