Indianapolis Colts prize rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson is still in the concussion protocol and will not practice on Wednesday, head coach Shane Steichen told reporters.
Richardson left Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans after he suffered a concussion while scoring his second rushing touchdown of the first quarter.
Following a strip-sack of Texans rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud, Richardson ran the next play 15 yards to the house, but took a big hit from safety M.J. Steward as he crossed the goal line.
Richardson popped up from the play celebrating and stayed on the field for the rest of the quarter. However, early in the second quarter, last year’s fourth-overall pick went to the medical tent and eventually the locker room for further evaluation before he was ruled out for the game with a concussion.
Replays of the touchdown run show that Richardson’s head whipped back into the field as he landed on his back.
The touchdown, Richardson’s third rushing major in just five quarters of play, put the Colts up 14-0 less than six minutes into the game.
Backup Gardner Minshew replaced Richardson and led the Colts to a touchdown on his first drive. The Colts would eventually win the game 31-20.
If Richardson is unable to play in Week 3 against the Baltimore Ravens, Minshew will start under centre.
