Senators’ Josh Norris hopes to play in pre-season game within ‘next week or so’

The Ottawa Senators and Josh Norris have been taking a cautious approach with his shoulder injury but the forward hopes to play a game “within the next week or so,” according to Sportsnet’s Wayne Scanlan.

Norris participated in Senators practice Wednesday without a yellow non-contact jersey, which is a good indication that he is taking positive steps in his recovery.

Norris, who has missed 90 games over the last two seasons with a shoulder injury, “tweaked something” at the team’s captains’ skate two weeks ago and started training camp in a yellow non-contact jersey.

Norris was initially injured in an October game against Arizona but wanted to avoid surgery for what would have been the second time in his career. But after three months of rehab, a return in January ended after three games when he re-injured the shoulder.

Norris, 24, is entering the second year of an eight-year, $63.6-million contract signed in July 2022.
