Montreal Canadiens defenceman Arber Xhekaj will be sidelined day-to-day with an upper-body injury, the team announced Friday.
The 22-year-old sustained the injury after taking a massive hit from Vegas Golden Knights’ Ivan Barbashev in the second period of Thursday’s 6-5 loss and left the game. As he was leaving the ice, he appeared to be suffering discomfort in his left shoulder.
The Hamilton, Ont., native headed into Thursday’s game with a goal and two assists over 17 appearances this season.
Xhekaj’s 2022-23 season was cut short in February after he underwent surgery on his right shoulder.
