The struggling Edmonton Elks are making a quarterback change.
Cody Fajardo is listed atop the depth chart for Friday’s game in Regina against the Saskatchewan Roughriders, replacing Canadian Tre Ford. The two split reps at practice this week.
After going in and out of the lineup the last two seasons, Ford was given the chance to open the season as the Elks’ starter this year.
But the University of Waterloo product has been inconsistent and is coming off his worst game of the season in a loss to the B.C. Lions. He completed just four of 12 passes for 34 yards and one interception before he was replaced by Fajardo in the second half.
Fajardo was traded to the Elks late last year after the Montreal Alouettes made the decision to go with Davis Alexander as their starter.
Fajardo, 33, led the Als to the Grey Cup in 2023.
Previously, he spent three seasons as a Roughrider.
The Elks (1-4) are last in the CFL West under new head coach Mark Kilam.
