The middle of the floor in Toronto is set for a few more years.
The Toronto Raptors agreed to a four-year, $104-million contract extension with centre Jakob Poeltl, keeping the talented rim-protector in town as they continue to work on improving their defence, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported Tuesday.
Poeltl will be on the books for $19.5 million for the next two seasons, picking up his 2026-27 player option according to Charania.
Though slightly hampered by injuries last season, the Austrian big man averaged career-highs in points (14.5), rebounds (9.6) and steals (1.2) while adding 1.2 blocks and shooting 62.7 per cent from the field.
He also scored a career-high 35 points on 16-of-19 from the field in a game against the Celtics in November while the roster dealt with injuries to players like Immanuel Quickley and Scottie Barnes.
The 29-year-old was integral to the Raptors last year, as they outscored opponents by 6.6 points per 100 possessions while he was on the floor.
Poeltl, who was drafted by the Raptors ninth overall in 2016, was dealt to the Spurs alongside DeMar DeRozan in the trade that netted Toronto Kawhi Leonard back in 2018. He then re-joined the Raptors via trade in 2023 and was signed to a four-year, $78 million contract.
