Blue Jays’ Guerrero Jr., Springer, Bichette named silver slugger finalists

The Toronto Blue Jays offence is being recognized with some potential hardware.

First baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr., outfielder/DH George Springer and shortstop Bo Bichette were each named finalists at their position for the Silver Slugger Award on Thursday.

The Blue Jays were also named a finalist for the team award.

Winners are determined by a vote among all 30 MLB managers and an additional three coaches per team and will be announced Nov. 7 at 6 p.m. ET / 3 p.m. PT.

Toronto scored the fourth-most runs in MLB during the regular season with 798. Their 71 runs in the post-season are 22 more than any other team.

The trio of Guerrero Jr., Springer and Bichette led the Blue Jays throughout the campaign.

Guerrero Jr., even in a down year by his standards, posted a .292/.381/.467 slash line over 156 games while clubbing 23 home runs to go with 84 RBIs. A win would mark his second straight Silver Slugger award and third of his career.

Springer, 36, enjoyed a resurgent season at the plate and earned a nomination as both an outfielder and designated hitter. Over 140 games, he slashed .309/.399/.560, with his .959 OPS ranking second behind Aaron Judge.

While his 2025 season will likely be remembered for his seventh-inning home run in Game 7 of the ALCS, Springer also swatted 32 homers in the regular season. He’s won two previous Silver Sluggers, the last of which came in 2019 with the Houston Astros.

Bichette, 27, led MLB in hits (181) before being injured on Sept. 6 with a knee sprain that ended his regular season early. Still, the total stood up as second overall, and he also ranked second with 44 doubles while posting a .311 batting average with 18 home runs and 94 RBIs.

He has never previously won a Silver Slugger award.

The Blue Jays open the World Series at Rogers Centre on Friday against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Live coverage will be available on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+ with first pitch set for 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT.
