The Los Angeles Dodgers will be bringing a star-studded roster to Game 1 of the Fall Classic in Toronto.
The team announced its 2025 World Series roster on Friday, which includes the likes of Shohei Ohtani, Freddie Freeman and Mookie Betts.
In contrast to its NLCS lineup, Los Angeles added right-handers Edgardo Henriquez and Will Klein while dropping lefty Alex Vesia and righty Ben Casparius.
Former closer Tanner Scott was not added. The left-hander was dropped from the division series roster following surgery on Oct. 8 to remove an abscess from an infection on his lower body.
Clayton Kershaw, who was left off the Dodgers’ wild-card series roster and did not pitch in the NL Championship Series, is on the World Series roster. Kershaw has said he plans to retire after this season.
The team announced on Thursday that Vesia will be away from the team as he deals with a personal matter.
Vesia has been one of L.A.’s top leverage arms over the last two seasons. Vesia posted a 3.02 ERA with 80 strikeouts, 22 walks and five saves over 59.2 innings during the regular season. He has a 3.86 ERA with four strikeouts and three walks over 4.2 post-season innings.
The 29-year-old took on the Dodgers closer role at times throughout the season, often as part of a committee with Scott, Blake Treinen and Kirby Yates.
Vesia’s absence will leave a significant void to fill in the Dodgers bullpen, as his seven post-season relief appearances is tied with Roki Sasaki and Treinen for most on the team.
Game 1 of the World Series goes on Friday, with the Dodgers sending starter Blake Snell against Trey Yesavage of the Blue Jays. Watch the game on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+ beginning at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT.
