Mavericks sign Canadian guard Dalano Banton

Canada’s Dalano Banton has a new NBA home.

The Rexdale, Ont., native signed with the Dallas Mavericks, the team announced on Tuesday.

Banton, 25, spent last season with the Portland Trail Blazers, averaging 8.3 points, 2.4 assists and two rebounds over 67 games.

He was selected by the Toronto Raptors in the second round (46th overall) of the 2021 draft.

In 216 career games with the Raptors, Boston Celtics and Trail Blazers, Banton has recorded 6.8 points, 2.2 rebounds and two assists per contest.

Now, he’ll join fellow Canadians Dwight Powell and Ryan Nembhard with the Mavericks.

To make room for Banton on the roster, Dallas waived guard Matthew Cleveland.
