On top of the POCO M3’s Corning Gorilla Glass 3-protected screen is a waterdrop notch. Meanwhile, the realme 7i has a punch-hole cutout on the upper left corner for its front shooter. Its screen is protected by an undisclosed version of Corning Gorilla Glass for unwanted scratches and accidental drops. As for eye protection, the POCO M3 emits lesser blue light to prevent eye strain, as confirmed by its TUV-Rheinland certification. The realme 7i, on the other hand, offers a 90Hz refresh rate that aids in smoother transitions and animations. If you want a high resolution, go with the POCO M3, but if you want a higher refresh rate and okay with the lower resolution, take the realme 7i.

Chipset

Both the POCO M3 and the realme 7i are powered with an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 processor with a max clock speed of 2.0GHz with an Adreno 610 GPU. The chipset is on the lower-midrange bracket, but users can still expect good performance from both devices. Based on our review of the realme 7i, the processor can handle daily multitasking and games with intensive graphics with little to no hiccups. Our benchmarks recorded an AnTuTu score of 143,585 for the realme 7i.

Memory

As for the memory, the smartphones sport LPDDR4X RAM. realme 7i has a larger RAM at 8GB compared to POCO M3’s 4GB. Locally, the realme 7i is available in 4GB + 128GB and 8GB + 128 GB UFS 2.1 storage. On the other hand, the POCO M3 comes in two variants: 4GB + 64GB UFS 2.1 storage and 4GB + 128GB UFS 2.2 storage. POCO’s usage of UFS 2.2 standard brings in faster application startup speed and cache loading to its device. Although both devices have dedicated microSD slots, the POCO M3 provides larger expandable storage up to 512GB. Meanwhile, realme did not disclose the supported storage capacity of its microSD slot.

Cameras

For the M3, POCO utilized triple rear cameras that consist of a 48MP main, 2MP macro, and 2MP depth sensors. Meanwhile, the realme 7i offers more with its quad rear cameras. This is composed of a 64MP main, 8MP ultra-wide, 2MP macro, and 2MP black and white sensors. This makes the realme 7i more versatile, allowing users to capture wider group and landscape photos. While the realme 7i does ship with a larger 16MP Sony IMX471 selfie camera, the POCO M3 has a smaller 8MP front shooter.

Features

Connectivity-wise, both devices are pretty similar. They both support 4G LTE, WiFi 5, Bluetooth 5, and dual-nano SIMs. The realme 7i, however, included Beidou as part of its supported navigation system. Meanwhile, the POCO M3 has an IR blaster, which turns the smartphone into a universal remote controller for home appliances.

As for other hardware features, both come with a USB Type-C port and a 3.5mm audio jack. For biometrics, the POCO M3’s fingerprint scanner is mounted on the side, while the realme 7i has it at the back.

OS

In terms of software, both devices are on the latest Android 10 with their skins on top: MIUI 12 for the POCO M3 and realme UI for the realme 7i.

Battery

Both devices are designed for heavy users as they’re equipped with large batteries. The POCO M3 has a larger 6,000 mAh battery compared to the realme 7i’s 5,000mAh battery. Both also support 18W fast charging with wired reverse charging, allowing them to function as a power bank for other devices. Moreover, the POCO M3 may support chargers with up to 22.5W.

Which one to get?

The POCO M3 comes with a higher resolution display, an improved UFS 2.2 storage for the 4GB +128GB variant, an IR blaster, and a larger 6,000mAh battery with extensive support for 22.5W chargers. Meanwhile, the realme 7i comes with a larger 8GB of RAM, quad rear cameras, and a higher resolution primary rear and front cameras. So, if you value a smartphone with a good screen and has a long battery life, then the POCO M3 is for you.
