Tinder will soon let you request background checks on matches

Tinder may soon enable users to run background checks on their matches.

Match Group, Tinder’s parent company, has announced that it had made a significant contribution to Garbo. Garbo is a non-profit background check platform capable of identifying certain aspects from public records such as reports of violence, abuse, arrests, convictions, restraining orders, harassment, and other violent crimes. It aims to help prevent gender-based violence by providing a transparent platform that gives information about whoever one will be connecting with.

“We’re still working out the pricing structure, but ultimately we want to be sure that the background checks are at a price point where it’s accessible to users,” a Match Group spokesperson told Mashable. The background checks won’t be free, though the pricing details haven’t yet been settled.

Match Group will begin testing and building out capabilities for Garbo on Tinder in the upcoming months. Tinder mentioned that once Garbo is adopted on the platform later this year, other Match Group U.S. brands are expected to follow. Additional details on implementation will be available soon, so stay tuned.
