Report: Phillies acquire LHP Jesus Luzardo from Marlins for two prospects

The Philadelphia Phillies have bolstered their starting rotation.

The Phillies have reportedly acquired left-handed starting pitcher Jesus Luzardo and catcher Paul McIntosh from the Miami Marlins in exchange for prospects Starlyn Caba and Emaarion Boyd, per multiple reports.

Luzardo’s two best seasons came in 2022 and ’23 with Miami, where he recorded ERAs of 3.32 and 3.58 respectively, while starting 50 games in the two year span. The 27-year-old only pitched in 12 games last season after suffering elbow and back injuries during the season.

Caba was the Philadelphia’s fourth ranked prospect per MLB Pipeline, and No.81 in the MLB. The 19-year-old shortstop hit .254 with a .427 OBP in 52 games last season in the Florida Complex league.

Boyd (PHI No. 23 prospect) spent last season is advanced-A. In 96 games, the 21-year-old outfielder batted .239 with three home runs, 40 RBIs and 27 stolen bases. He stole 56 bags in 2023 in single-A.
