Qualcomm announces on Mobile World Congress a few technologies to improve 5G connectivity and wireless audio.
Qualcomm introduces new capabilities that are coming with the next generation of earbuds and high-end Android smartphones beginning the second half of 2022.
With the Snapdragon X70 5G modem-RF system, Qualcomm tries to improve 5G connection with the assistance of an AI processor. This will maximize the 5G signal for better coverage which is an important factor for mmWave signals that are short-ranged compared to other broader coverage of low and mid-band frequencies. Qualcomm does note that this has been specifically geared toward limited situations like stadiums and city blocks but does not address one of mmWave’s key weaknesses which is the inability to travel from outdoors to indoors.
These new audio features include wireless earbud support for 16-bit “CD quality” lossless audio over Bluetooth and an additional gaming mode with 68ms latency which is 25 percent lower than their current technology.
