Is Maya giving away free Bitcoin to customers?

Has anyone else received Bitcoin in their Maya app? I got an SMS a few hours ago saying that I received Bitcoin on my Maya app. Although I’m very much aware that you can buy and hold cryptocurrency in the app, I got confused as I didn’t recently buy any Bitcoin.

Maya Bitcoin

This could have been just a mistake, so we asked around if others also received some Bitcoin and surprisingly they received some, too. So, we’re now wondering why Maya is sending Bitcoin to users.

So far, there’s no public information about it yet. We have already reached out to Maya for clarifications and are currently awaiting their response. Will make sure to keep you updated.

But if you’re wondering what Bitcoin is and how to access it using Maya, here are some quick explainers.

What is Bitcoin?

Bitcoin is a type of cryptocurrency or decentralized digital currency that you can use to make transactions online.

What can I do with Bitcoin?

Originally, Bitcoin was created specifically as an alternative payment system that could be used online and without any central control.

However, a lot of people also use it to earn and a common way is by holding onto them until their value rises. Once this happens, you will be able to sell your cryptocurrencies at a profit. As with other types of investments, it’s important to note that you should only put in money that you can afford to lose when it comes to cryptocurrency and to do your research beforehand.

How Do I Access Crypto in Maya?

Maya is an all-in-one money app that allows you to buy, sell, or hold crypto as well as send, spend, and save your earnings. If you want to learn more about crypto, Maya also offers Beginner’s Guides in-app that will teach you how to get started. Simply log into the Maya app, click on Crypto, and find the Learn Tab. This is also where you can buy and sell crypto. Simply click on Buy or Sell, choose your desired crypto, input your desired amount, and confirm your selection.

Early this year, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) granted PayMaya (the company behind Maya) the license to deal in crypto as a Virtual Asset Services Provider. So Maya’s crypto feature is certified legit.

And there you go. If you have also received Bitcoin in your Maya app, feel free to tell us about it in the comments below. If you haven’t yet, try to update your Maya app to the latest version!
In the meantime, if you’re not using the new Maya app yet and are interested to try it out, you can read our story here.
