Display
The two devices have the same foldable screen design. Both have cover screens and a larger foldable screen inside. The MIX Fold 2 has a larger cover display and slightly better resolution than the Galaxy Z Fold4. Both cover displays have a 120Hz refresh rate. However, the Galaxy Z Fold4 has the newer Gorilla Glass Victus+ for protection.
Looking at the internal display, the MIX Fold 2 has a larger screen but the one on the Galaxy Z Fold4 slightly packs more pixels. Both also have a 120Hz refresh rate and support for HDR10+. For protection, the Galaxy Z Fold4 has Gorilla Glass Victus+, while the MIX Fold 2 has SCHOTT UTG glass.
When it comes to the panel used, the two devices are equipped with their own variation of the AMOLED panel. Still, we can expect deep blacks and punchy colors from both.
Chipset, Memory, and Storage
The two devices are powered by the same chipset, which is Snapdragon 8+ Gen1 with an octa-core CPU and Adreno 730 GPU. The two also sport 12GB RAM and the same memory configuration of 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB UFS 3.1. None of these phones have support for microSD cards.
Cameras
When it comes to imaging, both have triple-rear cameras with a 50MP main. The MIX Fold 2, though, carries the Leica branding and some of its software features.
The Galaxy Z Fold4, on the other hand, has a higher telephoto camera resolution, but the MIX Fold 2 has a higher ultra-wide camera resolution.
Selfie-wise, the Galaxy Z Fold4 has two cameras, one for the internal display that is cleverly placed under the display itself, and one for the cover screen. The MIX Fold 2, on the other hand, only has a selfie camera for the cover screen.
Connectivity and Features
Both foldable phones almost have the same connectivity features — dual-SIM, 5G, WiFi 6e, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, GBS, and USB-C. Both have stereo speakers with the Galaxy Z Fold4 tuned by AKG, while the MIX Fold 2 is tuned by Harman Kardon. Both also have fingerprint scanners with the one on the Galaxy Z Fold4 placed on the side, while the one on the MIX Fold 2 is placed under the display.
The Galaxy Z Fold4 has the advantage of having IPX8 water resistance and support for the S Pen Fold Edition. For the MIX Fold 2, it has an IR blaster.
Both are powered by their own UI based on Android 12 and their own unique features, including Samsung DeX for the Galaxy Z Fold4.
Battery
The MIX Fold 2 clearly wins in terms of battery capacity but only by 100mAh. It also has a faster charging rate at 67W. However, the Galaxy Z Fold4 has support for 15W wireless charging and 4.5W reverse wireless charging.
Which one to get?
We don’t have the local price for the MIX Fold 2 as of writing so we can’t factor budget for now. But based on the specs, if you want a foldable with an in-display front camera for the internal display, has water resistance, support for an S Pen, wireless charging, Samsung DeX, and support for the Samsung Galaxy ecosystem, get the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4.
However, if you want something with a bigger screen, thinner body, Leica cameras, IR blaster, and a bigger battery with significantly faster charging, get the Xiaomi MIX Fold 2.
