Toronto Blue Jays closer Jordan Romano us still being evaluated after leaving Friday’s game against the Los Angeles Angels with low-back discomfort in the ninth inning, manager John Schneider told reporters.
Romano looked uncomfortable as he took the mound for the save and was replaced by Yimi Garcia with one out remaining and the bases loaded.
“It’s low-back discomfort, kind of locked up on him a little bit,” Schneider said. “Wanted to play it a little bit safe there.”
Romano suffered a lower-back injury two weeks ago at the All-Star Game, which sidelined him for a week. MRI results at the time came back negative.
The 30-year-old from Markham, Ont., leads the American League with 28 saves and holds a 2.79 ERA and 51 strikeouts over 42.0 innings pitched this season.
