Ilya Lyubushkin was back on the ice for morning skate after leaving his first game back with the Toronto Maple Leafs because of a head injury.
The 29-year-old told reporters that he was forced to leave the game because of concussion protocol and expects to play against the Boston Bruins.
Head coach Sheldon Keefe said the defenceman passed all the protocols he couldn’t get through on Saturday.
Lyubushkin was hurt when he was hit hard in the corner by New York Rangers tough guy Matt Rempe just after he played the puck in his own zone.
The Maple Leafs acquired Lyubushkin for the second time in his career on Thursday in a deal with the Anaheim Ducks.
The Leafs were desperate for a right-shot defenceman after Mark Giordano suffered a concussion earlier Thursday against the Arizona Coyotes.
Keefe did not name a starting goaltender for Monday’s game against the Bruins. Ilya Samsonov was the first goalie off the ice at morning skate but the head coach said he didn’t want Joseph Woll to sit too long between starts.
