As Bill Belichick begins his new chapter in the media, the former New England Patriots head coach and general manager is apparently hoping to make a comeback to the sidelines.
Those who know Belichick best say he “would like to return to coaching in 2025,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Sunday.
Belichick and the Patriots mutually parted ways in January after 24 years and six Super Bowl victories.
The 72-year-old Belichick has won 333 games, including playoffs, and is second only behind Don Shula (347) for the most victories by a coach.
New England finished last season with a 4-13 record, the worst in Belichick’s 29 seasons as an NFL coach.
The Patriots named linebackers coach Jerod Mayo as Belichick’s successor.
San Francisco 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said in July he offered Belichick a defensive co-ordinator position but was turned down. The 49ers promoted defensive pass game specialist and nickel cornerbacks coach Nick Sorensen.
Belichick has a plethora of media roles lined up this season as he’s set to join Monday night’s “ManningCast,” appear weekly on “The Pat McAfee Show,” provide analysis for “Inside the NFL” as well as have a show on YouTube TV.
