The Alexei Kolosov saga continues in Philadelphia.
Days after the 22-year-old goaltender did not arrive for Flyers training camp, opting to stay in Russia instead, Flyers GM Daniel Brière told reporters Tuesday that the team has no interest in loaning him to the KHL again for the 2024-25 season.
“We agreed last year to loan him back for one year because he wanted to stay home,” Brière said. “But at some point, you sign a contract and we want him here and we want him to start integrating himself into the game the way it’s played in North America.”
A third-round selection by the Flyers in the 2021 NHL Draft, Kolosov has spent the past three seasons with Dinamo Minsk Kolosov in the KHL. He did come to North America at the end of last season and appeared in two games for the AHL’s Lehigh Valley Phantoms.
But according to Brière, Kolosov wants a guaranteed spot in the NHL before he returns this season.
“We can still hope he shows up at some point if he wants to play hockey,” Brière said. “We hope that he changes his mind and decides to come, but it’s not looking like it at this point.”
Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported Monday that teams have inquired about trading for Kolosov and have been told the price is a second-round pick. However, any team that is trading for the young netminder would also have to figure out if Kolosov would agree to join the organization.
Kolosov finished with a 2.39 goals-against average and .907 save percentage in 47 games with Dinamo Minsk last season. In his two games at the AHL level, he had a 3.03 goals-against average and .885 save percentage.
Samuel Ersson and Ivan Fedotov are expected to handle the majority of the goaltending duties for the Flyers in 2024-25.
