Waze has recently announced adding RFID updates on its app to provide better routes for its users.
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has recently mandated toll road operators to implement a cashless and contactless payment system. Due to this, motorists must have radio-frequency identification (RFID) stickers installed on their vehicles when passing through expressways and major toll roads.
Waze has rolled out a new feature that lets drivers with an RFID sticker to add their local passes, such as AutoSweep and EasyTrip on the app. It works by adding it on the Toll and HOV passes settings on the app. It will also route them to toll roads that are accessible to their registered passes.
Through the new feature, there will be an RFID notification badge popping up on the app ahead of a drive to encourage users to update their passes settings and add in their RFID badges, in case they already have one. If the driver opted out, the app would lead them to routes that will avoid tollways.
The new feature is now available on both Android and iOS.
