Facebook announces Facebook Shops: an e-commerce platform for small businesses

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook, has announced that they will be launching Facebook Shops.

Small businesses may put up a Facebook shop to sell things directly across Facebook’s family of apps. Customers who visit will be able to “see that small business’s story, see their featured products, and buy them in our apps.”

With the loss of jobs, the closing of stores, and small businesses moving online, Zuckerberg and his team have accelerated the launch of Facebook hops to launch the platform now. Once users have set up their shop, it will appear on their Facebook and Instagram accounts – with Messenger and WhatsApp to follow soon.

Facebook is also working with several e-commerce platforms such as Shopify, BigCommerce, WooCommerce, Channel Advisor, CedCommerce, Cafe24, Tienda Nube, and Feedonomics for better integration of their tools.

There will also be features integrated to help businesses reach their potential customers, such as a dedicated shopping tab on Instagram, a destination inside the Explore tab, and a new Live shopping feature across Facebook and Instagram.

Lastly, Zuckerberg is also looking into AI and augmented reality to create a better shopping experience. Products will be automatically identified and tagged so people can find and purchase them easier. Customers may also use augmented reality to virtually try on products like sunglasses, lipstick, or makeup to see how they’d look before buying, or how a furniture would look in your room.

I just announced that we're launching Facebook Shops today – the basic idea is that any small business can easily start…
