Google delays Android 11 public beta testing

Google is delaying the public beta testing for Android 11 as the situation in the Bay Area, where Google office is located, escalates. The company has announced the update under the official Android Developers Twitter page.

Scheduled on June 3, the live-stream event aims to showcase the new features of the OS on connectivity, controls, safety, security, productivity, accessibility, and more. Originally part of the annual Google I/O, the announcement was pushed back a little further due to the global pandemic on coronavirus. There will be a question-and-answer portion with Android vice president for Engineering Dave Burke and senior director for product management Stephanie Cuthbertson.

According to the report of The Verge, if Google will follow its calendar, the second beta testing for Android 11 is set in July. It should be rolled out on supported smartphones by August or the third quarter of 2020. Despite the postponement, Google shared that it is still on time for the planned Q3 release.

Google didn’t give a new schedule for the event. Stay tuned for more updates.
