Summary of advantages
Motorola Moto G50 5G:
• Slightly more affordable
• Water repellent design
realme 8 5G:
• FHD+ display
• Higher front camera resolution
• Bluetooth 5.1
• Dedicated microSD slot
• Faster charging rate (18W)
Display
Both smartphones sport a 6.5-inch display. The Motorola Moto G50 5G comes with an HD+ resolution, while the realme 8 5G has an FHD+. However, if you are looking for a snappy phone, both offer a 90Hz screen refresh rate for a buttery-smooth experience for applications and games.
CPU and GPU
Powering these two smartphones is the same MediaTek Dimensity 700 SoC and ARM Mali-G57 MC2 GPU so that we can expect the same level of performance between these two. However, do note that we can only determine the extent of their performance and thermals once we have both units for a review.
RAM and Storage
Both Motorola Moto G50 5G and realme 8 5G come with 4GB of RAM. However, the realme 8 5G also has an option of a higher 8GB.
When it comes to storage, both smartphones have 128GB. You have the option to expand their storage up to 1TB, though, as they both have microSD slot. However, the realme device features a dedicated slot for easy expansion without sacrificing dual-SIM capabilities.
Camera
Both phones are neck and neck for the camera department. Both smartphones sport a 48MP main camera and 2MP for their macro and depth cameras. But, the race is won with the front camera of the realme 8 5G at 16MP, beating the Motorola Moto G50 5G’s 13MP. Take note, though, that these numbers don’t always equate to quality.
Other features
As for connectivity, both support 5G, dual-SIM (nano), WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. The difference that the realme 8 5G has over the Motorola Moto G50 5G is its support for an updated Bluetooth 5.1. However, the Moto G50 5G has a water-repellent design, meaning it can withstand accidental splashes.
Battery
Both Motorola Moto G50 5G and realme 8 5G have a 5,000mAh battery. However, the former supports 15W fast charge, while the latter has a faster 18W. Hence, the realme 8 5G is expected to recharge quicker.
Price
The Motorola Moto G50 5G (4GB + 128GB) comes with a price tag of PHP 10,495. On the other hand, the realme 8 5G (4GB + 128GB) is priced at PHP 10,990.
Which one to get?
It’s a landslide victory for the realme 8 5G. Although it would cost about PHP 500 more, it carries added benefits of an FHD+ display, a higher front camera resolution, and a faster charging rate. Plus, if you have an extra budget, you may also opt to get the 8GB + 128GB variant for PHP 11,990.
