Ever heard of TRIPKO and its card? If not yet, TRIPKO provides an Automated Fare Collection System (AFCS) for cashless transactions using a TRIPKO smart card. Plus, it provides an easier way of paying the fare by simply tapping your TRIPKO card once upon boarding and keep your ticket for inspection.
Besides, passengers are encouraged to get their free TRIPKO card for safer and contactless travel during the pandemic. With this, there are no more manual tickets issued by bus conductors and no more cash handling upon fare payment. But, what else do we need to know about it? Let’s find out more!
TRIPKO card
TRIPKO card is a stored-value reloadable and contactless payment card — also known as a prepaid card that can be used for fare payment on public transport, including buses and modern jeepneys. It grants commuters a more convenient and smart way to secure cash handling of the passenger.
TRIPKO is a product of Journeytech, Inc.; an 11-year-old IT company focused on digitizing the transportation payment landscape, thereby promoting security and efficiency to the riding public and transport operators.
The card can be used for partner buses and modern jeepneys nationwide. It now has 100 transport partners, over 500,000 cardholders, and over 100 outlets.
The TRIPKO card is given free to new cardholders with a minimum load of PHP 50 or PHP 100 (depending on the route). You may reload for as low as PHP 20, and the card can store up to a maximum value of PHP 5,000. Plus, there is also no minimum balance required to keep the card active.
Note, however, that for the second time you’ll get the card, you’ll have to buy it with a replacement fee of PHP 150. The fee includes the new card and the transfer of load (if the lost/old card still has a remaining load/balance).
The TRIPKO card can be used for 3 years from the purchase date. Further, any unused load can be transferred to the replacement card after 3 years of surrendering your old card.
TRIPKO in the “new normal”
According to TRIPKO, contact tracing is easier because each TRIPKO cardholder is asked to register his/her card so that each time a passenger taps the card, TRIPKO automatically keeps a record of who is inside the public vehicle.
In addition, TRIPKO complies with LTFRB’s “new normal” requirement to keep a trip manifest or logbook of passengers for contact tracing amidst the pandemic. With this, there’s no need to hold the publicly shared pen and paper for manual logging onsite.
