Indian multinational company Tata Group is set to launch its “super app” TataNeu on April 7, as announced in their Google Play Store page. At the moment, it was reportedly available only for Tata Group employees.
The long-anticipated app attempts to combine Tata’s digital services, including ordering groceries from BigBasket (which majority share was acquired by Tata in 2021), booking flights with Air India, booking rooms at Taj Hotels, or paying for utility bills through Tata Pay. Tata also plans to offer “NeuCoins” as reward in using TataNeu, where one NeuCoin is equivalent to one Indian rupee (approximately PHP 0.68).
With this development, TataNeu is seen as a potential competitor with other digital service platforms existing in the country such as Mumbai-based Jio Platforms and American multinational company Amazon.
According to Statista, India’s e-commerce market is expected to grow from USD 84 billion in 2021 to USD 99 billion by 2024. In relation to this, Amazon India leads online sales in the country with over USD 561 million as of 2017, followed by Flipkart, Myntra, and BigBasket.
