Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro Hands-on

Huawei’s smartwatch game constantly improves over the years and we sometimes wonder if it has already peaked since the previous iterations were already good. Then came the latest in the GT line, the Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro, sporting Titanium and Nanocrystalline Ceramic bodies, and ECG feature. Read my initial thoughts below.

The Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro comes in two models: Titanium for men and Ceramic white for women. What I have here is the former.

My unit sports the gray leather strap, but there’s also one with a titanium strap for a more premium look and a black fluoroelastomer for a more classic timepiece appeal. The gray leather strap gives it a casual look.

When it comes to smartwatches, I prefer a more classic look, which means I want something that looks simple yet premium. I’m glad that the Watch GT 3 Pro exudes that and that’s also one of the things you’ll notice about it once you take it out of the box.

The case looks like it is machined from a block of titanium, complete with chamfers, clear-cut lines, and contours that you would normally see in luxury watches. The finish is a combination of brushed metal and matte.

We have the 1.43-inch AMOLED screen on the front which is protected by sapphire glass.

Placed on the side, in the upper right corner is a rotatable crown to help you navigate the watch’s interface. This is also made of titanium.

Placed below it is the button for quick access to workout modes but it also doubles as the sensor for the ECG. We’ll talk about that later.

Flip it on its back and you will see the nanocrystalline ceramic rear cover which houses the sensors.

 

On the wrist, the Watch GT 3 Pro has a decent heft to it. Enough to constantly remind you that you’re wearing something luxurious but not so much that it’s tiring to wear. It’s worth noting that titanium is lighter than stainless steel by about 40% less, but it is very strong relative to its weight.

The strap is made of genuine leather and it even says so under the strap. You might want to change the strap, though, if you’re thinking of taking this for a swim.

Speaking of swim, the smartwatch is IP68 and 5 ATM rated, meaning you can take it for a dive as deep as 30 meters. Like the previous Huawei Watch models, it comes with workout modes but is now capable of recording diving data such as diving duration and depth cord. There’s also an Apnea training mode that records your heart rate, breath-holding duration, and the start time of diaphragm contraction, to help increase how long you can hold your breath.

For golfers, the smartwatch also has a Driving range mode that follows your swing down to the last detail. It records professional swing data such as the swing speed, swing tempo, backswing time, and downswing time. It can even provide you with demos and tips to improve your golf game.

The Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro, like its predecessors, has the usual health monitoring features such as heart rate, SpO2, sleep, and stress monitoring. But they also added medical-grade ECG analysis.

The ECG sensor module is built-in the button located on the right side of the smartwatch. All you need to do is launch the ECG app, then hold your index finger on the ECG sensor for 30 seconds. It will then provide you a quick summary if there are any irregularities straight from the screen, but if you want a more detailed ECG report, just go to the Huawei Health app on your smartphone and tap on ECG.

Before you get excited, Huawei reminds you that the data produced by its ECG app is just for reference and not to be used to make a professional medical diagnosis. Although it’s good to see the smartwatch tell you that things are normal, it’s still best to see your doctor for your clean bill of health.

 

Lastly, for the battery, the Huawei Watch GT 3 pro can last up to 14 days of typical usage or 8 days of heavy usage. Huawei increased its charging speed by up to 30%, allowing you to charge to 25% in just 10 minutes, or 100% in just 85 minutes.
