Toronto Blue Jays relief pitcher Erik Swanson has been placed on the 15-day injured list with thoracic spine inflammation after having to leave Saturday’s game early.
The right-hander bent over in apparent discomfort after delivering a pitch to the third batter he faced, Kole Calhoun, with one out in the seventh inning and departed shortly after.
Swanson, 29, is 3-2 with a 3.10 ERA and a 1.086 WHIP in 58 innings pitched this season.
The club recalled right-hander Jay Jackson from triple-A Buffalo in a corresponding move Sunday.
Jackson is 3-0 with a 1.64 ERA. The 35-year-old has a 0.818 WHIP in 22 innings this year.
The Blue Jays face the Guardians in the series finale on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. ET / 10:30 a.m. PT in a game that can be seen on Sportsnet and SN NOW.
