Predators’ Luke Schenn out 4-6 weeks with lower-body injury

Nashville Predators defenceman Luke Schenn will be out four to six weeks with a lower-body injury, the team announced Wednesday.

Schenn hasn’t played since last Tuesday’s season opener against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Schenn finished last season with the Toronto Maple Leafs, who acquired the veteran blue-liner in a deal with the Vancouver Canucks.

The Predators signed Schenn to a three-year, $8.25-million deal in the off-season.

It marked a significant raise for the blue-liner, whose supporting role in Tampa Bay during the Lightning’s back-to-back Stanley Cup championships and strong performance with the Vancouver Canucks and Maple Leafs last season saw him revive his career. The 33-year-old bounced around the league after his first stint in Toronto and time in Philadelphia, and spent the last five years on short-term deals worth less than $1 million annually.

The Maple Leafs picked Schenn fifth overall in the 2008 NHL Draft.
