James Harden has reported back to the Philadelphia 76ers for practice Wednesday after spending 10 days away from the team, The Athletic’s Shams Charaia reports.
Philadelphia has asked Harden to remain at home while the team opens their first two games on the road. Harden had his bags packed with the intention of rejoining the 76ers on their road trip.
Harden did not play in the preseason. He did attend training camp and continued to practice with the 76ers in the wake of his off-season trade demand.
Harden said early in camp his fractured relationship with team president Daryl Morey could not be repaired — comparing it to a broken marriage — and said over the summer that he could not play for the 76ers.
Part of Harden’s complaint stems from his belief he should have earned a long-term contract with the Sixers after last season. It never came, thus the trade demand.
Philadelphia’s road trip starts with their season opener against the Milwaukee Bucks and concludes against the Toronto Raptors on Saturday.
