• Larger battery

Lenovo Legion Phone Duel 2:

Display

Both devices are expected to deliver a great visual experience thanks to their large AMOLED screens with a 144Hz refresh rate and support for HDR10+. The Legion Phone Duel 2’s screen is slightly larger than the ROG Phone 5s, but the ROG Phone 5s has more pixel count. However, the former has a higher touch-sampling rate which can provide more advantage in competitive gameplays. For protection, both are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass. However, the ROG Phone 5s has a more advanced and tougher Victus.

Processor

Both ROG Phone 5s and Legion Phone Duel 2 carry a powerful processor. The former, however, boasts a more advanced Qualcomm Snapdragon 888+ 5G SoC, compared to the latter’s 888 5G SoC.

According to Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 888+ 5G delivers flagship experiences with intelligent entertainment, including AI-enhanced gameplay, streaming, photography, and the like– backed by boosted performance, unrivaled speed, and premium connectivity. The 888+ also gets slightly better Geekbench scores of 1176 (Single-Core) and 3744 (Multi-Core). On the flip side, the 888 gets scores of 1144 and 3717, respectively.

RAM and Storage

The ROG Phone 5s offers 8GB, 12GB, 16GB, and 18GB options. The Legion Phone Duel 2, on the other hand, offers three RAM options — 12GB, 16GB, and 18GB.  When it comes to storage, the former has 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB, while the latter has 256GB and 512GB.

Both devices can offer as much as 18GB + 512GB, but a smaller RAM and storage option makes the smartphone comes at a lower price.

Cameras

The ROG Phone 5s offers triple-rear cameras, while the Legion Phone Duel 2 only offers dual-rear cameras. That’s not much of a big deal, though, considering that this is a gaming smartphone. But if you’re looking for something that can be versatile in mobile photography, the ROG Phone 5s is better.

When it comes to selfies, the ROG Phone 5s has a 24MP front camera placed in the top corner of the bezel. However, the Legion Phone Duel 2 has a higher front camera resolution at 44MP. In addition, it has a pop-up selfie camera found at the top center in landscape mode, which is ideal for streaming gameplay.

Connectivity and Features

Both devices are pretty much identical in terms of connectivity features. Both are 5G-powered and have Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, two USB-C ports, multi-band SatNavs, dual front speakers, quad-microphones, extra touch keys, RGB lighting, and haptics. However, the ROG Phone 5s has the edge of having WiFi 6E, which is an extension of WiFi 6 for 6GHz band utilization and faster throughput. It also comes with a 3.5mm audio port for your wired audio peripherals without the need for a USB-C adapter.

Battery

The ROG Phone 5s leads in capacity at 6,000mAh compared to the Legion Phone Duel 2 at 5,500mAh. The former, however, supports 65W fast charging. The latter offers 65W fast charging using a single USB-C port and 90W fast charging using two USB-C ports.

Cooling

Gaming smartphones generate a lot of heat. That’s why both come with their own cooling technology. The ROG Phone 5s cools itself using an accessory called the Aero ActiveCooler 5, which blows air at the device’s back. The Legion Phone Duel 2, nonetheless, has a more complex cooling system by having it built-in. It has passive cooling components and a vapor chamber liquid cooling area. To help dissipate the heat, it uses an intake fan to bring cool air in and an exhaust fan to blow the warm air out.

Which one to get?

It’s actually difficult to choose between the two as they have their own advantages. Going for the ASUS ROG Phone 5s gives you a tougher device equipped with Gorilla Glass Victus. It also comes with an advanced processor (SD888+ 5G) and a larger battery capacity, making it pretty solid for gaming. Also, having an additional macro camera, advanced WiFi 6E, and a 3.5mm headphone jack is a plus, too.

On the other hand, the Lenovo Legion Phone Duel 2 has a slightly larger screen with a higher touch sampling rate. For the cameras, it also owns a higher ultra-wide camera resolution and a higher front camera resolution. Lastly, its built-in cooling system is also an advantage for intense gaming sessions.

Perhaps choosing between the two would be much easier once we knew the local price of the ASUS ROG Phone 5s. After all, a device with a lower price also becomes a more attractive option. So we’ll have to wait and see.
