Google is offering a new subscription plan called Premium Lite that offers ad-free viewing at a more affordable price.
The Premium Lite plan was spotted by a user on ResetEra. From the usual EUR 11.99 monthly Premium subscription, Premium Lite just costs EUR 6.99 a month. YouTube confirmed the new plan to The Verge and said that it is currently being tested in Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden.
“In Nordics and Benelux (except for Iceland), we’re testing a new offering to give users even more choice: Premium Lite costs €6.99/month (or local equivalent per month) and it includes ad-free videos on YouTube,” a YouTube spokesperson told The Verge.
The Verge reports that Premium Lite offers ad-free viewing via YouTube app on the web, Android, iOS, and smart TVs, as well as YouTube Kids app, but doesn’t include other benefits like YouTube Music, background playback, and offline downloads.
YouTube says that Premium Lite is currently in an experimental phase but is considering rolling out more plans based on customer feedback.
