Huawei Watch GT 3 Hands-on

Huawei has launched in the Philippines its latest smartwatch, the Huawei Watch GT 3. But how is it different from the older models like the Watch 3 and the Watch GT 2? Find out in our hands-on.

The Huawei Watch GT 3 looks almost similar to other Huawei Watch models, which can be a good or a bad thing depending on user preference. It’s good if you already like the design of the previous watches, or bad if you’re already looking for something new.

One thing you can be sure of, though, is that the Watch GT 3 is a beautiful smartwatch with a premium build. It comes in two models and sizes — the Watch GT 3 46mm Active Edition, and the Watch GT 3 42mm Active Edition.

What we have is the former which has a chronograph design and a 1.43-inch AMOLED touch screen with 466 x 466 resolution. It’s sharp and vibrant, with good outdoor legibility.

The screen is housed in a case made of stainless steel with 11mm thickness, while the rear panel is plastic. It also features a black fluoroelastomer strap, but also comes in brown leather and stainless steel.

The Watch GT 3 features a rotating crown for easy scrolling and adjustment, a power button that also works as a function button — just press it and it will open the workout app, and a speaker and microphone.

Before you can use the smartwatch, you’ll have to pair it to a smartphone (Android or iOS) with the help of the Huawei Health App. If you’re already using a Huawei smartphone, the app is already pre-installed on the device. The device supports smartphones running on HarmonyOS 2 or later, Android 6.0 or later, iOS 9.0 or later.

Once paired, you can now update its firmware, tweak its settings, and download watch faces. The smartwatch feels comfortable on the wrist thanks to the smooth strap. It also has a nice heft to it at 42.6g.

When it comes to features, the Watch GT 3 is 5 ATM water-resistant, has dual-band 5-system GNSS, Bluetooth (version unknown), accelerometer, gyroscope, geomagnetic sensor (for compass), optical heart rate sensor, air pressure sensor (can give you severe weather warnings), and temperature sensor.

If you’re a fitness buff, the Watch GT 3 supports 100+ Workout Modes including running, cycling, yoga, hiking, swimming, jumping rope, and skiing. Runners will definitely like the Personal AI Running Coach as it can assess your athletic ability based on your historical running data, and provide you with a scientific and professional running plan for your daily running and race preparation.

If you’re not a hardcore fitness person, you can still take advantage of its health-monitoring features, which include a sleep monitor, all-day Sp02 monitoring, stress monitoring, step counter, and heart rate monitoring. You can also take advantage of the Healthy Living feature which lets you set daily goals and give you reminders to take a break, drink water, move when you’re idle for too long, and sleep on time, to help you develop healthy habits. If you want to relax, there’s a breathing exercise app that you can use.

As for other features, the Watch GT 3 can provide you with notifications, answer and reject calls via Bluetooth, launch Huawei assistant, and install more apps via Huawei AppGallery for Watch.

As for the battery life, the Watch GT 3 46mm boasts an impressive 14 days of life. The 42mm, on the other hand, can last up to 7 days. Charging is done wirelessly using the USB charging cradle included in the package.

The Huawei Watch GT 3 46mm is priced at PHP 12,999 and comes with freebies worth PHP 3,998. The Watch GT 3 42mm, on the other hand, has an online exclusive price of PHP 8,299 and comes with freebies worth PHP 2,490 during the pre-order phase. The normal price is PHP 11,999.

If you’re looking for a premium smartwatch with the mentioned health features under this budget, make sure to check the Huawei Watch GT 3.
