The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have named Scott Milanovich as their new head coach, the team announced Wednesday.
The announcement comes one day after the Tigers-Cats shuffled their front office, with Orlondo Steinauer giving up his head coaching duties to focus on his role as president of football operations and Ed Hervey was promoted to general manager.
“First and foremost, Scott is an outstanding person and a proven head coach in the CFL.” Steinauer said in a statement. “He did an outstanding job with us last year when he took on an expanded role, and we know his leadership will bring tremendous value to our organization. We’re looking forward to the 2024 season and we’re excited that Scott and his family will continue to be a part of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.”
Milanovich joined the Tiger-Cats as a senior assistant coach earlier this year and took over offensive play-calling duties in August.
“I want to thank Bob Young, Scott Mitchell, Orlondo Steinauer, Ed Hervey and Hamilton Sports Group for this opportunity,” Milanovich said in the statement. “There is an outstanding foundation in place and I’m excited to get to work and help bring a championship to Hamilton.”
The Butler, Penn., native served as the head coach of the Toronto Argonauts from 2012-16. He won the Grey Cup and was named the CFL’s Coach of the Year in his first season with the Argos. Milanovich also won back-to-back Grey Cup titles with the Montreal Alouettes in 2009 and 2010 as their assistant head coach and offensive coordinator.
The Tiger-Cats have lost to the Alouettes in the East semifinal in the past two seasons.
