Reports: Commanders to hire Cowboys DC Dan Quinn as head coach

The Washington Commanders are set to hire Dallas Cowboys defensive co-ordinator Dan Quinn as head coach, according to multiple reports.

The Commanders were the final team with a current head-coaching vacancy. The team, under first-year ownership, fired Ron Rivera after a 4-13 season.

Quinn stays in the NFC East after spending the past three years as Cowboys defensive co-ordinator under Mike McCarthy.

The Cowboys made the playoffs each season, but suffered a surprising 48-32 loss to the Green Bay Packers as the No. 2 seed this year in the wild-card round. Quinn was named the NFL’s assistant coach of the year in 2021.

Before Dallas, Quinn was the head coach for five-plus seasons with the Atlanta Falcons. He had a 43-42 record as a head coach, highlighted by a run to the Super Bowl in the 2016 season when Atlanta lost to Tom Brady’s New England Patriots.

Quinn won a Super Bowl as defensive co-ordinator for the Seattle Seahawks in the 2013 season.
