Apple released the iPhone SE 2020 last week. It’s Apple’s most affordable iPhone in its current lineup. However, the PHP 26,490 price tag might be steep for some. If that’s the case, why not settle for older iPhone models that are still good but cheaper than the iPhone SE 2020. Check them out below.
Before we proceed, let us remind you to be careful when purchasing older iPhone models as most are second-hand units with an expired warranty or could be refurbished. So, check and test if it’s working before you buy it.
iPhone 6s/6s Plus
Released in September 2015, the iPhone 6s is surprisingly a decent smartphone eve for today’s standards. It is equipped with an A9 processor coupled with 2GB of RAM. And with the support of iOS 13, this phone can serve you well if you’re just a casual user.
In the camera department, for a smartphone released in 2015, the iPhone 6s’ 12MP rear and 5MP selfie cameras are still good for social media uploads. Video, on the other hand, supports 4k resolution at 30fps—the first iPhone to support this resolution.
You can get an iPhone 6s “good-as-new” from third-party resellers for PHP 6,300 for the 16GB variant, or a brand new iPhone 6s Plus on Apple’s authorized resellers for PHP 19,990.
iPhone SE (1st generation)
You might be wondering why is the iPhone SE on our list. It is because this is the fastest 4-inches device you can get. With its iPhone 5s form factor, A9 processor with 2GB of RAM, 12MP primary camera, iOS 13 support, it’s still a decent iPhone. However, getting one might be tough since there are only a few online sellers that still have this. But if you’re lucky enough to see one for sale, the price might start at around PHP 5,000.
iPhone 7/7 Plus
Even though portrait mode is only available on the iPhone 7 Plus, the camera on the iPhone 7 is still up to par in today’s standards. The A10 Fusion chip on the iPhone 7 series is still snappy and can handle tasks as well as games, although not as good compared to newer devices. The iPhone 7 has a 4.7-inch IPS LCD, while the iPhone 7 Plus has a 5.5-inch display, which is large enough for casual users.
Apple’s Authorized resellers are still selling the iPhone 7 Plus for PHP 26,990, which is a pretty hard sell considering the 2nd generation iPhone SE’s pricetag at PHP 26,490. But if you want to cop the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus, other resellers are selling it for a starting price of PHP 8,700 and PHP14,000, respectively, with 32GB of storage.
iPhone 8/8 Plus
The iPhone 8/8 Plus has the same design as the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, but with a more capable A11 Bionic chipset, which is also found in the iPhone X. If you want a more advanced camera system, glass back, wireless charging, and a powerful processor, then the iPhone 8 is the one to get. For the price, some sellers are asking for PHP 14,000 for the iPhone 8 and PHP 18,000 for the 8 Plus, both with 64GB of storage.
iPhone X
The iPhone X packs almost the same internals as the iPhone 8, except with its OLED display and notched design. The iPhone X has a larger screen, 3GB of RAM, and the new FaceID. Apple has already stopped selling this device on their website, but you can still buy a brand new unit on some authorized Apple reseller for around PHP 30,000, and a little over PHP 20,000 from some sellers.
