You may soon use Google’s Live Caption on Phone calls

Google’s Live Caption is getting a new update, which allows the accessibility feature to work over phone calls.

According to a report made by the XDA Developers, the Android 11 Developer Preview 3 APK teardown for the Google Pixel 4 included strings that allowed users to turn on Live Caption over a phone call.

Furthermore, enabling the feature will play an audio file to the person on the other end of the call, stating, “Hi, the person you’re about to speak with has call captions turned on. They’ll see captions of what you say to help them listen along.”

The API that Live Caption relies on does not allow recording the audio of calls. However, XDA Developers did note that a system-only permission in Android 11 may enable the feature to bypass the restriction.
