Pokemon Unite, the first strategic team battle game from the franchise, is coming on Nintendo Switch and mobile smartphones. The game is developed under a partnership with TiMi Studios, Tencent Games’ subsidiary for video game development.
Supporting a cross-play platform, the 5v5 cooperative game groups other players to defeat an opposing team. Before playing, players get to choose a Pokemon. To score points, they need to go to their team’s base. They may also defeat other wild Pokemons in the field, evolve, and learn new skills. Players may customize the abilities of their Pokemons which could be categorized from long-range to close-range attacks, and sneak into the opposing side’s goal areas to score. Once the Pokemons reach a high level, players may unlock special skills call Unite Moves which deals a lot of damage to enemies. The goal of the game is to protect their team’s respective scoring areas and score the most points within a given time limit.
There’s no info yet as to when the Pokemon Unite will launch. However, The Pokemon Company announced that it will be available on Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android devices for free.
