Google Photos update come with redesigned UI, new Map View, and Memories

Google has updated its photo gallery platform, Google Photos. Check out the new features below:

Redesigned UI:

Google Photos now has a redesigned UI, with only three tabs for a less cluttered screen:

  • Photos: The main tab contains all your photos and videos, with larger thumbnails, auto-playing videos, and less white space in between. There’s also a large Memories carousel up top.
  • Search: Users can now easily search for photos on the main menu. There’s also an interactive map view.
  • Library: The library tab includes several destinations in the photo library, including Albums, Favorites, Trash, Archive, and more.

Map View:

There’s a new interactive map view of your photos and videos. Users can now pinch and zoom on the map to show the images you’ve taken in different locations. By enabling location on your device camera, location history, or manually add locations, the photos will be organized and searchable in Google Photos.

Relive moments with Memories:

Google is adding more types of Memories, including the best pics of you and your closest friends and family. Google Photos’ automatic creations, including movies, collages, animations, and more, have also been moved from the For You tab to Memories.

New Icon:

Google has also redesigned the original pinwheel icon into a simpler, curved icon.

The new Google Photos update is set to launch over the next week on both Android and iOS.
